Give someone their 2027送人一个2027
Oranges get eaten and hampers get regifted. A guide to the one gift this Chinese New Year that is still worn, and still warming, by the next one.
By The Bone Moon Journal · 6 min read

Chinese New Year gifting has rules everyone knows and nobody writes down. Give in pairs, never in fours. Give something that wishes the person well for the year, not just something nice.
The hard part is giving something personal. A hamper says you remembered. A gift that names what someone is going after in 2027 says you were paying attention.
Bone Moon 月牙 is three hand-carved mammoth tusk pendants, each built around one wish for the year: Win it. Keep it. See it coming. 争得到,守得住,看得清。 Here is who gets which.
For the closer, the climber, the newly promoted送给冲业绩、往上走的人
The Hunter's Fang 龙门猎牙 · S$288鲤鱼跃龙门

Give it to: the top performer on your team, the friend who just landed the regional role, the son or daughter starting their first sales job, the colleague leaving to start their own thing.
Why it lands: it is a dragon carved from the tip of a mammoth tusk, and it carries the oldest career story in Chinese, the carp that leaps the Dragon Gate and becomes a dragon. For 2,000 years, giant teeth dug from the earth were called 龍齒, dragon teeth. Handing someone a dragon's tooth says: you jumped, and I saw it.
龙门猎牙 The Hunter's Fang · S$288.00For the business owner and the shop opening送给开张、做生意的人
Mahakala, Keeper of What You've Built 大黑天·守业尊 · S$288守住你的饭碗

Give it to: a friend opening a shop, studio or clinic in the new year, a business partner, the boss who kept everyone paid through a slow 2026, an agent whose income is all commission.
Why it lands: Mahakala is the guardian of the rice bowl 饭碗. About 1,300 years ago the monk Yijing recorded monasteries keeping his image at the kitchen pillar so that no one went without food. Wrathful protectors are traditionally believed to act fast, and in Tibetan tradition he is regarded as the fierce form of Guanyin. For an opening, it is a wish that what they are building is kept safe.
大黑天·守业尊 Mahakala · S$288.00For someone at a crossroads送给站在路口的人
The Awakened One 拨云见日·觉者 · S$388看清,再决定

Give it to: a friend weighing a job offer, a couple about to buy their first home, someone choosing a business partner, anyone with a big signature ahead of them in 2027.
Why it lands: 佛 simply means the awakened one. Asked if he was a god, the Buddha said he was awake. The carving shows a face rising where the clouds part, 拨云见日, and it is the only piece in the collection finished with a gold-tone clasp. As a gift it says: take your time, look twice, then decide.
拨云见日·觉者 The Awakened One · S$388.00For your parents送给爸妈
Parents are the hardest people to buy for and the easiest to get wrong. They do not need more things. They do appreciate a gift that carries a wish for the family.
Dad: Mahakala. Mum: The Awakened One.爸爸守家业,妈妈看得清

For a father who spent decades keeping the family fed, Mahakala is a thank-you in his own language: the guardian of the rice bowl, for the man who guarded ours. For a father in his comeback year, it is a wish that what he rebuilds stays his.
For a mother who is everyone's first call before a big decision, The Awakened One honours the clear head she already has. It is also a gentle reminder for a parent who gets more phone calls and too-good offers than they used to: look twice before you say yes.
Giving to both? That is a pair, which the bundle below rewards.
For a Tai Sui year犯太岁的那一年
2027 is the 丁未 Fire Goat year. By tradition, four signs meet the year's ruler 太岁 head on, and families often give those relatives something protective to wear from the first day of the new year.
| Sign | Relationship with 2027 | Traditional gift choice |
|---|---|---|
| Goat 羊 | 值太岁, its own year | Mahakala, a guardian for the year |
| Ox 牛 | 冲太岁, clash | Mahakala, to keep what is built |
| Rat 鼠 | 害太岁, harm | The Awakened One, to look twice |
| Dog 狗 | 破太岁, break | Mahakala, to keep what is built |
| Rabbit 兔, Pig 猪, Horse 马 | In harmony with the year | The Hunter's Fang, to go after it |
Tai Sui pairings follow common folk tradition and are offered as symbolism, not as a prediction or guarantee of any outcome.

The set of three三件成套,正好送礼
A set reads as one complete wish for the year. Some families give it to one person, the head of the household or the parent who started the business: win it, keep it, see it coming. Others give a pair to one household and keep the third for themselves.

When to order何时下单
Chinese New Year falls on 6 February 2027. The best gift is the one worn from the first day of the year, so it is worth ordering well ahead, ideally by early January.
There are two practical reasons. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships, and couriers slow down in the weeks before the new year. Ordering early also leaves room to use the 30-day right-fit exchange before the visiting starts, so the piece that gets handed over is the right one.
Is it appropriate to give a Buddhist figure as a gift?
Yes. Many people give and wear these as a symbol and a daily reminder, not only as devotional objects. We simply ask that they are worn with respect.
Mahakala looks fierce. Is that a bad gift for the new year?
No. In Tibetan tradition he is regarded as the fierce form of Guanyin, and the fierceness faces what threatens the wearer, never the wearer.
Is it from elephants?
No. It is mammoth tusk from the Siberian permafrost. Mammoths have been extinct for thousands of years, so no living animal is harmed.
What if it does not suit them?
Use the 30-day right-fit exchange. That is one more reason to order before the new year rather than in the last week.
